ABOUT
Designed in the likeness of a public building that stood in Hartford, Connecticut, the Franklin Township Hall was built in 1837. It was used as an office for the Franklin Silk Company; after the company failed, the Franklin Township Trustees completed the
Franklin Township Hall in 1840.

How do I find the zoning classification of a piece of property?
Look at the township Zoning Map, locate the property parcel and use the legend to determine the property Zoning District.

When do I need a zoning permit?
A Zoning Certificate is required when any building or other structure is erected, moved, added to, demolished, altered, or established. A Zoning Certificate is also required for any “change in use” of a building, structure or land.

Do I need a zoning permit for an accessory building [storage shed]?
Yes. All accessory buildings shall be consistent with the Township Zoning Resolution.

Do I need a zoning permit for a fence?
Yes. All fences shall be consistent with the Township Zoning Resolution.

Do I need a zoning permit for a swimming pool?
Yes. All pools above ground and in ground require a Zoning Certificate. Temporary wading/kiddie pools do not require a Zoning Certificate.

Do I need a zoning permit to re-shingle my roof?
No Zoning Certificate is required, unless there are structural changes to the roof.

Do I need a zoning permit to remodel the interior of my house?
No Zoning Certificate is required, unless there are structural changes made to the interior (for example, removing a load bearing wall).

Where can I place event, yard, and garage sale signs?
Ohio law and Franklin Township zoning prohibits posting of signage on utility poles and in road right-of-ways.
