Franklin Township regulates the use of land, the density of land use and the location of different types of development in order to preserve the health, safety and welfare of township residents and their property. The township has documented zoning requirements in the Franklin Township Zoning Resolution, the Township Zoning Map and the Zoning Fee Schedule. Further, the township has adopted The Franklin Township Exterior Property Maintenance Code which establishes standards for the maintenance of exterior surfaces and exterior functioning units of all structures and buildings within the Township.
The Zoning Inspector, designated by the Board of Township Trustees, shall administer and enforce the Franklin Township Zoning Resolution. The Zoning Inspector shall respond to questions concerning applications and the zoning map, issue, and act upon zoning certificates, inspect structures, buildings, and use of land to determine compliance and work with the Portage County Prosecutor when prosecution is necessary. The Zoning Inspector maintains all zoning records and reports to the Board of Trustees monthly, as well as attending and working with the Board of Zoning Appeals, the Zoning Commission, and the Portage County Regional Planning Commission. The Zoning Inspector does not have set hours and meets by appointment only. You may schedule an appointment with Mr. Ciccozzi by calling 330-673-2194 ext. 2.
